Mavi Design
The Mavi Design YouTube channel was created in 2019 as a way to share my knowledge with the world. Being self-taught myself, I thought it would be worthwhile to give back to the YouTube community while solidifying the basics.
Through trial, error and data analysis I have ended up posting videos mostly about Figma as that seemed to be the most popular topic at that time. That turned out to be a winning strategy and to this day, Mavi Design brings in thousands of organic viewers every day, mostly from well-established evergreen content that ranks high in the search algorithm. Millions of people have already watched my videos and I can only hope it’s been helpful to them.
The branding, recording, post-production, marketing, analysis and strategy is entirely a one-man operation. There was never a paid promotion of Mavi Design and all the traffic has been driven purely by YouTube search and recommendation algorithms.
Mavi Design Store
There is also the Mavi Design Store. My videos are free to watch, but if a viewer wants to save time (and support the channel), they can purchase the source file of whatever’s being created during the tutorial, opening another income stream for the YouTube channel.
Mentoring: both at scale and personalized
Mavi Design also offers private 1:1 coaching and mentoring sessions, where I’ve had the pleasure to mentor other designers through online sessions. I help them with anything related to their (soon to be) profession: career development, hard and soft skills, problem solving and in general just about anything I’m qualified to answer thanks to my experience. This means that I’ve had the privilege to mentor others both at scale (videos, free courses) and highly personalized (1:1 online sessions).
Feedback from the community
The feedback on Mavi Design’s free videos as well as paid products has been really good – users leave overwhelmingly positive comments and share personal stories of how watching my videos has impacted their career lives. Running Mavi Design has been an incredibly rewarding journey. I’ve learned a lot about various aspects of running an online brand and even entrepreneurship. It is amazing to read comments from people showing that my videos helped them get un-stuck or understand various concepts in Figma and design in general. It’s also a nice side hustle that allows me to contribute to the design community, spread the word about the difference good design makes and see the positive impact my work makes every day.
